Walton Custom Builders delivered a full kitchen renovation and a brand new walk in pantry at Williams Rd, Toorak, turning an undersized, impractical kitchen into a proper working space with the storage it never had. The project was completed in eight weeks, with the client living in the home for the entire build.

The Brief
The client came to us through a referral, needing real working room in a kitchen that had never had enough of it, with no pantry at all. The answer was sitting on the other side of the kitchen wall, a large lounge room that could comfortably afford to give up some space. The plan, developed with Thomas and Vogler Design, was to create a brand new walk in pantry behind the kitchen and rebuild the kitchen itself around a proper, functional layout.
What We Dis
The client’s biggest concern was going without a kitchen, not living with a bit less lounge room. A household can manage without a corner of a lounge room. Living without a kitchen is another matter.
We removed the existing kitchen in full, cut a new doorway through into the adjoining lounge room, and formed the walk in pantry within that space. We patched and blended the timber floorboards through the new opening so the join is unrecognisable as a modification, then sequenced the trades tightly so the time between the old kitchen coming out and the new one going in was as short as we could make it.
It is a small example of something we hold ourselves to on every project. We plan around the household, protect and tidy the home every day, and leave it clean each afternoon.

Outcome
A functional kitchen had been a long time coming, and the client was genuinely overjoyed with the new space. The walk in pantry gives her ample room for everything the old kitchen could not hold, including a permanent workstation for appliances that keeps benchtops clear and clutter out of view of the main living areas.
